It doesn’t worry that in the past they were farmland, or that more and more people have their first residence there, because Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas taste and smell of holidays, of fun times and a multicultural mix that welcomes everyone who comes here.
Anyone who has been to Playa del Inglés knows that the statement we have just made is as true as the fact that it is very difficult to get bored in this area belonging to the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

What’s in Playa del Inglés
As its name suggests, this extensive and beautiful beach located in the south of Gran Canaria began to attract tourism in 1962, offering a perfect climate to enjoy a wide beach of golden sand all year round.
Little by little it grew. Complexes were built consisting of bungalows, large hotels, restaurants, shopping centres… In other words, everything that tourists needed to combine their days in the Atlantic waters.
So, if anyone wonders what’s on offer in Playa del Inglés, the answer is “everything you need for a good stay”.
What to do in Playa del Inglés
Answering this question is a little more complicated, as the range of leisure activities on offer has multiplied over the years. It should be borne in mind that the beach is not only perfect for bathing and enjoying the Canarian sun, but also for practising all kinds of water sports. Moreover, its length, together with the immense sandy areas of the Maspalomas Dunes, makes it easy to find less frequented areas.
In front of the beach, on a promenade that runs along several levels (due to the terrain) there are all kinds of restaurants, pubs and shops where you can buy the typical beach products and tourist souvenirs.
And if that is not enough, either on your own or by hiring a company, there is the possibility of excursions to other parts of the island that have a lot to offer, such as Puerto Mogán for those who love the sea or Roque Nublo for those who need to feel the mountains.
Fun and tolerance
On the other hand, it should not be forgotten that Playa del Inglés has become the gay-friendly destination par excellence, especially for visitors from northern and central Europe. And to see for yourself, you only have to take a stroll around the Yumbo Centrum shopping centre, the epicentre of one of the most fun events organised throughout the year.
We are talking about the Maspalomas Carnival, which is held a few weeks later than the traditional carnivals. It brings together thousands of people ready to have a good time around the rondallas, murgas and, of course, the traditional parade of floats that runs through the main streets of the town.
